Amputation

This piece was inspired by my grandfather, a Torres Strait Islander, descended from Warriors, who was defined by his strength and resilience despite the hardships in his life, including a below-knee amputation. To emphasise his love of gardening and connection to nature, I imbued his amputation with palm fronds and hibiscus flowers. Sadly my grandfather has passed, but I imagine him watching over his family from the beachfront standing alongside our Ancestors, his body restored to wholeness with a spear for fishing in his hand. As the waves crash in front of a setting sun, I feel he is finally at peace
